PROPOSED 2008 HEALTH FAIR PROJECT
DELTA STATE OF NIGERIA

Delta Doctors in Diaspora is a non-profit organization based in the United state of America. The organization promotes education and healthcare activities in the Delta State of Nigeria. Delta Doctors in Diaspora is concerned with the increasing incidence and prevalence of heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, and HIVIAIDS in Delta State, In the past five years, studies have shown that thousands of people have died from Delta State of causes associated with heart disease, cancer, diabetes and HIV/AEDS.

In view of the magnitude of these health issues, Delta Doctors in Diaspora is proposing to conduct a state wide Health fair in Delta State, of Nigeria, Providing health education and preventive measures to reduce disease incidence and prevalence.



Project goal: The major goal of Delta Doctors in Diaspora is to provide health education and preventive measures to reduce illness and deaths related with chronic diseases.

In partnership with the Delta State Government, we will assist in providing Healthier Delta.


The need: Chronic diseases like heart disease, stroke, hypertension, diabetes HIV / AIDS and high cholesterol are by far the leading cause of mortality in the world today representing 60% of deaths.

In Nigeria, chronic diseases impacts negatively on families and communities.

The global epidemic of chronic disease affects quality of life, reduces longevity and impacts on the economy of world as a whole.

In Delta State, communities with limited access to health care are our major focus. There is a need to increase health awareness and literacy. Encourage and motivate the people of delta state to live longer, healthier lives.

Delta Doctors in Diaspora believe that health education and preventive care can go a long way to reduce long-term complications associated with chronic diseases. Studies have shown that 80% of heart attacks, stokes hypertension and Diabetes type and high cholesterol are preventable 40% of cancers are also preventable through behavior changes, healthy diet and regular exercise.
